QIGONG HOLIDAYS

Annie’s qigong journey

I have been practicing various forms of Qigong for the past 10 years. One of the reasons that led me to qigong was that I was interested in the benefits of meditation but always found it hard to sit and meditate.

A teacher suggested doing qigong as it is a moving meditation and I found that this was perfect for me. In 2017, I spent 3 months studying qigong in China and obtained an international Zhineng qigong teacher certificate. I am very motivated to teach qigong as it is a method which you can practise, no matter what your state of health or fitness is and with regular practice, you will very soon see many improvements in your health and wellbeing. In Zhineng qigong, there are several levels, so we are able to find the best fit for each person.

Here is an explanation of qigong  :

Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention.

The word Qigong is made up of the word "Qi", pronounced “chee” ,  meaning the life force or vital-energy that flows through all things in the universe, and the word " Gong", which means accomplishment, or skill that is cultivated through steady practice. So, it is  a system for cultivating energy and it is practiced for health maintenance, healing and increasing vitality.

Qigong practices can be classified as martial, medical, or spiritual. Some practices increase the Qi, others circulate it and others practices use it to cleanse and heal the body, store it, or emit Qi to help heal others. The slow gentle movements of most Qigong forms can be easily adapted, even for the physically challenged and can be practiced by all age groups.

Qigong creates an awareness of and influences dimensions of our being that are not part of traditional exercise programs. Unlike most other forms of exercise, when you do qigong, you use visualisation, mindful intent and breathing techniques together with physical movements that involve the meridian system. When these dimensions are added, the benefits of exercise increase exponentially.

The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qigong reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and enhance the immune system. It has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions. Those who maintain a consistent practice of Qigong find that it helps them regain a youthful vitality, maintain health even into old age and helps speed recovery from illness. Western scientific research confirms that Qigong reduces hypertension and the incidence of falling in the aged population. One of the more important long-term effects is that Qigong re-establishes the body/mind/soul connection. People do Qigong to maintain health, heal their bodies, calm their minds, and reconnect with their spirit. When these aspects of our being are integrated, it encourages a positive outlook on life and helps eliminate harmful attitudes and behaviours. It also creates a balanced life style, which brings greater harmony, stability, and enjoyment!!

I have chosen to train in Zhineng qigong because Zhineng qigong has been found to be the most effective QiGong for wellbeing, prevention of disease as well as healing many illnesses. It has different levels, with the first level focusing on increasing the Qi to improve health and vitality and the second level focuses on circulating the Qi to get it to places where often Qi blockages occur, which then result in disease. Once the Qi flows well throughout the body, diseases disappear. In every level,  emphasis is placed on raising and developing consciousness. For me, this has therefore been the way to achieve deep states of meditation, as well as maintaining excellent health and therefore so much more rewarding than regular exercise. Although, I do love mountain biking and it makes me feel totally blissed out, when I am in these magnificent karri forests! I can totally recommend getting on the bike during your stay!
